Pursuit sixty eight: Fabric hunting

Recently I have had the creative bug to redesign the vibe of my future room. Having moved back to Memphis until I find a job outside of the state (preferably), or can no longer handle living at home with the rents, I have had the opportunity to fulfill some of my creative urges. Yesterday my mom and I went to a local fabric store to check out some swatches.

I am currently in the works of designing a new headboard for my bed and needed some fabric ideas for covering the headboard. My mom was looking for fabric to have one of our couches reupholstered. Below are some of the fabric swatches that tickled our fancy...

It was funny to notice how much my mom and I are alike as we were both feeling each and every fabric with our hands. We are both tactile and visual people...haha! Fabric hunting was just stage one in the headboard making process. I will keep you updated on the creative fun as my mom and I design the style of the headboard frame, and make it all come to life!

Do any of these swatches tickle your fancy... or make you want to shriek in terror?? I would love to know what you all think : )

Pursuit sixty seven: ADV 470: Campaigns

Today is the day!

Today is the last day of my undergraduate career, as well as Advertising 470 Campaigns presentations! Spectrum Agency and Blue Print, the two campaigns teams, will be vying against one another to win the Casa de Sara campaign. Casa de Sara is a local Knoxville non-profit charity that provides education, health care, and nutrition to children in Bolivia. Both campaigns teams consist of unique and insightful individuals, and I am excited to see the outcome of the presentations.

I feel like I have lived the last month and a half in the library, a place that I have avoided like no other for the past four years of my college career. Although it has been strenuous and at times just plain god awful, in the end it has been a great experience!

So, with this post I bid adieu to my college career. It has been real. I have grown a lot, and when thinking about it now, it feels as though it has flown by.... In four years I have lived in six different apartments, studied abroad twice, made new friends, lost some friends, experienced happy and sad things, and realized my passion for creativity, expression, and advertising.

I am excited for this next phase and my life, and just want to say good luck to both campaigns teams! WE ROCK!

Pursuit sixty six: Triscuit Plant a Seed~Grow a Movement challenge results

So, it has been almost a month, and I have successfully grown my herb seeds. When I started this challenge I thought I was growing basil. However, I quickly realized that the seeds that were sprouting up were not basil seeds. I had thrown out the Triscuit box a couple of weeks prior to planting, so I had semi forgotten what type of seeds they were. I thought I had remembered the box saying basil seeds, but they ended up being dill seeds (he he)... either way I grew some seeds!!

The Triscuit box photo shoot

June 17th~The seeds first day in the pot

June 24th~One week

June 30th~Two weeks

July 1st~Two & a half weeks

July 11th~A little over three weeks

Here is what the Triscuit Home Farming website has to say about dill: http://www.homefarming.com/CropGuide/Crop/Details/36/dill

I am going to keep growing my dill, but I just wanted to share with you all the progress of my herb seeds!

Pursuit sixty five: Leaving on a jet plane...

So as of today, July 1st, I have 23 days left to live it up in Knoxville, Tennessee before I hit the open road. I have compiled a list of the top five things that I would like to do before I leave this grand old city.

Number five: Visit King Tut's Grill
~Because who doesn't want to eat supposedly good food while enjoying hilarious slash on the verge of creepy moments like this one in the video below~

Number four: Attend a Thursday Night Social Paddle
~Because I have always wanted to go kayaking while the sun is setting. Who wouldn't want to enjoy the scenic views of downtown Knoxville? Plus, you cannot beat a $15 kayaking adventure~

Number three: Play a game of corn hole at Bearden Beer Market while enjoying some tasty beer
~Because I am always up for a good beer, LOVE the Beer Market, and corn hole isn't too shabby itself~

Number two: Attend a painting/sipping class at Spirited Art
~Because I have always wanted to get my inner artist on with friends while enjoying some vino~

Number one: Run around in the fountains at World's Fair Park
~Because who doesn't want to frolic around in water fountains like a wee kid during the summer time? I may be twenty-two years old going on twenty-three, but I will always enjoy opportunities to let loose like a five-year-old~

So, I have 23 days to accomplish these top five things... Let the races begin!

P.S. If any of these activities sound appealing, and I actually know you :)... I would love you to join in on the festivities with me!

Pursuit sixty four: The trials and tribulations of the white duvet cover

A little over six years ago I received this bedding set from my parentals for Christmas. I have greatly enjoyed the simplistic and classic design of this duvet cover and matching pillow shams. They have been relatively easy to keep clean, and are a bedroom piece that I have yet to get tired of owning.

However, a little over a year ago, a new creature came into my life... Smith (my 71+ pound chocolate lab). To say keeping Smith off of my bed has been easy is an understatement. Think more of trying to keep a moth from flying towards a bright light in the dead of night (nearly impossible). Thus, the "safety blanket", just a regular old yellow blanket was brought into employment to try and keep the massive amounts of brown dog hair and lovely little mud paw prints from completely destroying my bedding.

Yes, all of this sounds like complaining, but I am just attempting to find a resolution for this issue. I want and love to cuddle with my pup. I just do not enjoy to see the remnants of his fur and paw prints so readily displayed for all to see. Let me just say that I have become amazing at using a lint roller (an item I never thought to use to clean my bedding before Smith) prior to guests coming over to my crib.

As I will be wrapping up my college career here at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in less than a month, and packing up my things and the pup for our next phase of life, I am on the hunt for a new duvet cover. I feel as though I have looked everywhere online, and nothing has instantly tugged at my heartstrings. I am interested in stepping out of my design comfort box, and want to step away from my love of the Shabby Chic style. However, I do not want to purchase something that in less than two years I will abhor looking at every time I enter into my room.

So, this is where you come in lovely Pursuits of Price readers! Do you have any suggestions of fabric, websites, stores, etc. where I could purchase or make a duvet cover that will disguise Smith's fur and paw prints more easily? Something that I will not have to cover up with the "safety blanket" every time the big brown pup wants to lay on the bed with me?

I would love to hear from you!

Pursuit sixty three: Earth Fare's Strawberry and Banana Smoothie (Price style)

A couple of weeks ago I had one of Earth Fare's fruit smoothies for the first time. Let me just tell you... it was divine! So, despite my inability to cook (or maybe it is just the lack of patience to cook for one individual) I decided that I wanted to attempt to make my own smoothies instead of going all the way to Earth Fare to pick up something that I am sure a five year old could whip up. While ordering my second Strawberry and Banana smoothie from the counter at Earth Fare, I secretly spotted the lady putting all of the ingredients into the blender, and knew at that moment that I could conquer the task of making a Strawberry and Banana smoothie.

The ingredients:

~Strawberries~

~Bananas~

~Earth Fare Organic Apple Juice (the secret ingredient shh)~

I noticed that the strawberries and bananas had been cut up and were frozen. So, after purchasing a container of strawberries and a couple of bananas, I went ahead and cut them up and placed them in the freezer over night. I would suggest leaving the strawberries and bananas in the freezer for at least one day to give you the ultimate Strawberry and Banana smoothie.

On the first morning of making the smoothie for myself, I added roughly 8-10 cut up strawberry pieces, 10 banana pieces, and filled the blender with apple juice until it was about 1/3 the height of the strawberries and bananas who were chilling in the blender waiting to become a member of the final masterpiece.

On my third day of making the Strawberry and Banana smoothie for breakfast, I discovered that using a chilled glass makes the smoothie ten times better! Also, I discovered that putting less apple juice in the blender gives the smoothie a thicker (not chunky) consistency, which I personally enjoy.

Ta-da! Gold star for me for actually being excited about making something in the kitchen! Now, if my other cooking (I suppose smoothie making is not really cooking) attempts were as successful as this, life would be so grand!

Pursuit sixty two: C.S. Lewis

While meandering through the Internet last evening, I came upon a quote from C.S. Lewis and fell in like...

I felt the need to share with you all

"Love anything and your heart will be wrung and possibly broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact you must give it to no one, not even an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements. Lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket--safe, dark, motionless, airless--it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable. To love is to be vulnerable."
-C.S. Lewis
